Japanese Matcha Bowl - Earthy Glazed Ki-Irabo Mino-yaki Summer Chawan - 100ml

This hira-gata Ki-Irabo chawan (matcha bowl) features a wide and shallow shape, perfect for allowing tea to cool in the summer. This bowl also has a pronounced chadamari and is decorated with a subtle hakeme brush stroke.

Consisting of a thin iron-rich earth ash glaze over a coarse, stony, iron-rich clay body, irabo (伊羅保) chawan are prized for their rough finish and irregular ochre-coloured glaze. Ki-irabo (黄伊羅保 - yellow irabo) chawan have a yellow-y colour and are fired in oxidation.

Mino-yaki (美濃焼,) is a type of Japanese pottery produced in Mino Province in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Since the introduction of mass production in the Meiji period (1868–1912), Mino ware accounts for around 50% of Japanese pottery produced today.
