The top is Asahiyaki's signature geppaku glaze, a rice straw ash glaze that fires into a milky blue. The bottom is an iron black glaze carefully applied to leave a small gap of bare clay, showing off the raw colour of the clay. The high temperatures of their climbing kiln bring out the rich colours of these two glazes which exhibit a range of hues as the glazes thins and pools across the mug's surface.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eBefore using it for the first time, it is recommended to soak the piece in water for 10 minutes.
