Chakōro - Tea Leaf Incense Heater

This cute Tokoname-yaki chakōro (茶香炉 - tea leaf heater) is thrown from green ryokudei (緑泥) Tokoname clay with a textured surface and floral cutouts. The leaf holder and candle holder are made of brown and grey stonewares respectively. The wooden trivet protects surfaces from the heat of the candle (one of which is included).

Chakōro use the heat of a tealight candle to gently heat a plate of tea leaves. Any tea can be used, but senchas and other green teas are most common. The gentle heat releases the leaves' aroma while they slowly roast.

Made by the third-generation head of Sekiryū Kiln (石龍窯) who took over the kiln after her brother Hiroyuki Kamimura retired.
