Japanese Matcha Bowl - Hand-built Gyodou Mino Chawan - 400ml

This handbuilt white chawan (matcha bowl) has an organic shape formed by hand-building (手びねり - tebineri) and carving out (くりぬき - kurinuki), leaving an uneven, undulated form that fits well in the hand. The bottom of the inside is finished with a gyodou (魚道 - fish path), a sprialling design which is also mirrored in foot. The bowl has a translucent glaze which shows off the whitish-beige colour of the clay, except for a patch where the clay turned orange due to the heat of the klin.

Mino-yaki (美濃焼,) is a type of Japanese pottery produced in Mino Province in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Since the introduction of mass production in the Meiji period (1868–1912), Mino ware accounts for around 50% of Japanese pottery produced today.
