Plum Blossom Banko-yaki Teapot - 270ml

This elegant Banko-yaki kyusu (teapot) is made from the iconic Banko shidei (紫泥) clay. A high-iron clay that is fired in reduction, shidei known for its muted purple colour and ability to subtly reduce the astringency of tea.

The pot is decorated with handpainted ume (梅 - plum blossoms) using a technique called mori-e which involves multiple rounds of firing and painting to achieve a vibrant and dimensional effect.

The teapot's built-in ceramic debeso filter is perfect for naturally straining tea. The kyusu ships in its original kiribako (桐箱 - wooden paulownia box), signed and sealed by the artists.

Made by Shimizu Suigetsu (清水醉月) and painted by his wife Shimizu Kishio (清水きし代).
