Textured Shudashi Kokudei Tokoname Teapot - 280ml
This stunning Tokoname-yaki kyusu (teapot) is made from Tokoname kokudei (黒泥) clay, which has the same properties as the iconic red shudei (朱泥) but is fired in reduction producing a deep black.
The maru-gata (circular) body is supported by a tall foot and is decorated with a unique organic texture. Recalling the rustic of negoro lacquerware, a thin layer of the blackened clay is polished off organically, revealing the brilliant vermillion of the shudei clay underneath. This techinque is called shudashi (朱出し - vermillion reveal) and is employed on the collar, lid knob, and handle too.
Its built-in ceramic sasame filter is perfect for naturally straining tea, with a wide shape for faster pouring and less clogging.
The kyusu comes in its original kiribako (桐箱 - paulownia wood box) signed and sealed by the artist.
Made by Hiroshi Koie (鯉江廣氏) who produces work under the name Reikō (玲光).
